How to Compare Hotel Rates Without Losing the Cancellation Policy

How to Compare Hotel Rates Without Losing the Cancellation Policy

There is usually a better question than “is this the cheapest price?” A useful travel booking decision considers the route, the payment deadline, the amount of flexibility you will actually use and the total cost of changing your mind later.

Start with the full booking picture

Write down the date, fare or hotel rate, every included item and every condition that is attached to the offer. If a price changes when you add a bag, select a payment option or choose a reasonable cancellation window, that difference belongs in the comparison.

A good deal should still make sense after you have read its conditions.

Keep one alternative open while you compare. A slightly higher rate with a useful refund option, a better arrival time or fewer extra costs can be a more comfortable choice than the first low number you find.

Make the next step modest

Set a reminder before any free-cancellation deadline and keep confirmation emails in one place. Booking is easier when the trip remains understandable after the excitement of the search has passed.
